I come from a family of musicians who all played instruments. My father, Earl Knapp Sr. was a long time Guitar and Steel Guitar player in Kansas City and my greatest influence growing up. My brother Mike is an accomplished pianist, guitarist and drummer and runs a recording studio in Kansas and is the Pastor in a Large Church in Emporia with an impressive church band..My mother played guitar ,harmonica and accordion and keyboards. I have played with such bands as Country Style , Jim Deckard and Country Plus ,The Joy Williams Band (with Kirk Brown and Dennis Spears), Johnny and the Dreamers ,KC legend Clayton Howardton and the Kickin Country Band, Bill Hudgens and the County Liners , Brad Rigby and New Cut Road, Steve Epely and Roadhouse , WildRukus , Woody and the Back Roads Band and My own Band , Twisted Spur. And now The New Spur Band .I have opened for Faron Young , Gene Watson , and Rex Allen Jr., Billy Joe Royal, Narvel Felts ,Tommy Cash and others and played in the band ,on stage with Kenny Brent and Michael Twitty. I also play bass and drums and a little lap steel besides the guitar. I started out playing guitar at age 5 and at about 12 got interested in drums and then went back to guitar later. When I was just 14, I got to sit in with dads band playing drums for a song every night at our Branson show. ( Our family had the third music show in Branson. They bought the old Baldknobber building down by lake Taneycomo just up from the old 65 bridge. It was called the Lakeside Theater. He later sold out to Jim Nash who later built his own show on the strip ,then sold it to the Plummers .Back then it was just The BaldKnobbers , The Presleys and us !) Then later I got to fill in with his band Playing in Lees Summit Mo at "Funhouse Pizza and Pub" on Friday nights for 30 minutes until their regular drummer got there.(milk route made him late on Fridays) and then I got a paying job with him and his new band with Gene Sloan playing in KC ,Ks. on Leavenworth road at a club called The Staircase Club. It payed REAL good in them days and I was in hog heaven at 15 years old . At that club I got to back the old time stars like Dickey Lee and Jerry Foster who is now a major songwriter in Nashville. That was a big thrill ! Dickey Lee had just come out with” Ashes of Love" and was touring and just brought his guitarist to arrange the songs with the bands so I got to play with him. Then some of the KC guitar players that dad knew started making an Impression on me and it was back to guitar and that time I stuck with it. I have no regrets as it has been a long, wonderful and strange ride !
Dewey is from Leeton,Mo. And is a longtime Pro Bassist and harmony vocalist. His superb tone and prowess on the bass guitar has earned him spots with many good area bands. Well known and liked among his peers ,Dewey is a favorite among listeners in southern Missouri. He has played with Bill and Earl in several bands and opened for several major stars. Dewey brings a solid part to the bands rhythm section with his thumpin big bass sound & good attitude !!
